2016 Artist In Residence – Andres Peña & Fernando Galan

Flamenco Rosario is excited to present the 2016 Artists in Residence guest artists: Andres Peña and Fernando Galan!

Andres Peña was born in the flamenquísimo town of Jerez de la Frontera, Spain and started to learn flamenco at the age of 10 under the tutelage of the legendary Angelita Gómez. As a soloist he has been presented in the Festival de Jerez 2001 & 2001, in the Festival de Granada 2001 and The Bienal de Sevilla 2002, where he won the “Jóvenes Interpreters Flamecos” (Young Flamenco Talents) that prompt a tour in Italy, Luxemburg, France, Switzerland and The Netherlands.

With his first length work “Peña” which premiered in the Festival de Jerez 2004, he has tour to England, The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France (Tolouse Festival) and the Canary Islands (Festival Flamenco de Tenerife).

With his partner Pilar Ogalla he creates a new work: “A Fuego Lento” which has traveled to Dusseldorf, The Helsinki Festival, Turin Flamenco Festival, Holland and Belgium, Jerez, Sevilla, New World Festival Flamenco LA USA and France. Both Andres Peña and Pilar Ogalla were featured guest artists for the 2015 Vancouver International Flamenco Festival.

Fernando Galan is a native of Jerez de la Frontera, Spain. He graduated from the “Sociedad de Baile Español” and “Centro de Baile Jerez” and is an instructor of different types of dances, such as, Flamenco, Spanish Folk and “Bolera School”. He has also studied with flamenco masters, such as, Mario Maya, Manolo Marín, Matilde Coral, El Guito, Jose Antonio Ruiz, Manolete, Granero, Azorin and Juan Parra.

Fernando started his artistic career as a dancer at the age of 20, performing worldwide in renowned theatres with the best Spanish Dance Companies. He was invited to join the “Ballet Albarizuela” as a principle dancer and at the company of Javier Latorre. He has made appearances – and is very much in demand – as a guest artist in several flamenco dance companies. He is also highly sought after as a guest choreographer.

As a teacher, Fernando has been invited to give workshops in Germany, Finland, Belgium, Switzerland, England and South Africa. He teaches regularly in his native Jerez de la Frontera. This is Fernando’s second engagement with Flamenco Rosario.
