Marién Luévano’s Biography

Marién was born in Mexico City and was introduced to flamenco at the hand of Mercedes Amaya “La Winy,” niece of the legendary Carmen Amaya. Marién has been under the tutelage of very experienced flamenco instructors in Andalucía such as,  Joaquin Fajardo, Milagros Menjibar, Rafael Campallo and Los Farrucos. From 2003 to 2005, Marién was awarded a grant by FONCA to study in Fundacion Christina Heeren in Sevilla, Spain and in 2006, to create a choreographic work. Marién has performed in “La Casa de la Memoria” in Sevilla, “Conservatorio de Danza Morelos” in Cuernavaca, México, and “Un Poquito de Compas” Flamenco Series in Teatro de la Danza in México City.

She has taught workshops at the “Esencia Flamenca” academy in Taipei Taiwán and “Spain Kikaku” academy in Fukuoka, Japan. Marién is a regular performer at the Tablao Flamenco “Gitanerías” in Mexico City and is the founder and Artistic Director of “Duende Flamenco”, a working space for flamenco dancers and musicians to explore the endless possibilities of the art of flamenco.

Marién Luévano is a regular guest artist with Flamenco Rosario and Centro Flamenco.
