MIS HERMANAS tells the personal story and recalls the memories of Rosario Ancer growing up in Mexico, her dreams of becoming a dancer, her journey to Spain and her arrival to Vancouver, Canada. Through narrative, dance, sound effects, stills and video projections, the audience will be taken on a journey from Mexico to Spain and from Spain to Canada. Flamenco Rosario is breaking new and exciting ground: recreating a profile of each sister through the magic of a child’s memory, through music and dance and exploring the journey to other countries, cultures and times.
Show creator Rosario Ancer will be joined on stage by seven other flamenco dancers/choreographers, including: Marién Luévano (Mexico), Fiona Malena (Calgary), Juliana Pulford (Ottawa), Katherine Oliveri (Montréal), Christina Tremblay (Chicoutimi, Québec), Melanie Meyers (Vancouver) and Deborah Dawson (Vancouver). Musical Director and flamenco master Victor Kolstee will direct a team of musicians including: guitarist Miguel Ramos, Gypsy singer Angelita la del Lito (Spain), and percussionist Alvaro Rubio (Mexico).
**Mis Hermanas has been selected as part of Made in BC’s 2012-2013 season of contemporary dance and will tour to venues within this presenting network at Nanaimo, Whitehorse, Kelowna and Golden.**
SUPPORT MIS HERMANAS WESTERN CANADA TOUR:
As we are sure each of you understands, embarking on such full-scale presentation tours is challenging on many levels for all companies, but even more so for smaller independent players like Flamenco Rosario. This presents our organization’s projects like this tour with heightened organizational and financial challenges in an enduring context of stiffening competitiveness for public funding on the one hand, and increased stress on audiences’ cultural spending due in part to a wavering Canadian economy on the other hand. But we believe that this is in times like these that art can and must console and rejuvenate hurting souls by bringing people closer together through inspiring life stories, which is precisely what Mis Hermanas is all about!
Please be a supporter of this tour by becoming a donor now. This will represent a significant step toward alleviating unanticipated funding gaps, and will have a tremendously positive influence on how future performance deliveries might be approached and carried on for new works currently underway. If 200 people give just $25.00 each, it would be extremely helpful. And if an additional 50 people were to give $100.00, it would ensure that this tour expenses are fully covered and all participating artists retributed in a way that pays homage to their hard work and devoted talent.
You can make a contribution today by clicking on the Donate Now button below or by cheque at our office. We are a registered charity and will provide you with a tax deductible receipt. The Board of Directors of Flamenco Rosario appreciates any help you can give us for this important project.
